Farewell October, Hello November

Farewell, October!

October was a whirlwind of a month. I felt like I was going, going, going all month long. Business wise, I had two pop ups. Hearts and Hearts Vintage was one of 5 vintage vendors  at Tako’s Treasures for 3 weeks and the second was a weekend  pop up at Red Velvet.

I was successful at both, but I’m taking a pop-up break. For November, I’ll be focusing on growing my brand, sourcing and organizing inventory and hopefully filling my shop up to the brim with new items!

I went to Nashville earlier in the month. Sadly, I didn’t do any exploring of the city. It was a one day shopping trip. Pin-Up Girl Clothing (PUG)  was hosting  a yard sale! PUG dresses usually retail for $100-$350, but at their infamous yard sales nothing is more than $60. Of course I made that 4 hour trip up the highway to shop, shop, shop! I’ve heard the legends of these yard sales and knew that it was going to be worth it. They hosted a contest to get early entry and as someone who HATES LINES I wanted it more than anything. The contest required reposting images once a day on either Facebook or Instagram. 3 people from each social media site would be given 10 minutes early entry to shop with a friend. I entered of both and I won…BOTH! None of my friends accompanied me on the trip so I asked two girls who are customers at the boutique I work at and they were thrilled. We all had great hauls and I’m sure my dresses will make a cameo on the blog some day soon.

The rest of the month was spent working and being way more social than I’m used to. Everyone and their mom was born in October so I had a few birthday parties and  dinners to attend. I had a good October, but my body was over it and I came down with the flu the last week of the month and missed all Halloween activities. I’m still not 100%, but I’m finally feeling better.

Somebody remind me to get a flu shot in September next year!

June- What I’m into

Errrr…what I was into in June. ^_^

Reading

IMG_0062

Hunger by Roxanne Gay. I’ve been looking forward  to reading this book for years. I preordered and forgot about the release date, so it was a lovely surprise to get it in the mail. I thought I’d devour this book in a day, but I couldn’t. It’s such a raw, powerful memoir about Roxane Gay’s relationship with food, self-image and weight. It was so emotional that I couldn’t just speed through it. I had to take breaks and emotionally process the chapters, but I finished it.  It’s a fantastic read and I recommend it to anyone of any size.

Watching

img_0063.jpg

I’ve ever watched Big Brother or Bachelorette but I’m tuning in for the current seasons and I’m enjoying it. I have a few issues with the shows (a racist contestant for a black bachelorette? The bullying in Big Brother!) but I’m still tuning in every week.

The new SZA album CTRL is everything. I love it.

Oot and aboot

June was a busy month. I saw  Wonder Woman TWICE, cookouts every weekend, participated in a pop-up, treated myself to Hello Kitty Cafe treats and fostered  a puppy for Alive Rescue. She was adopted this week!

Excited about

Visiting family in Dallas and seeing the Frida exhibit at the Dallas Museum ofArt. I’m so looking forward to seeing the Two Fridas.

Gingham on my mind

I’ve been dreaming of the perfect  gingham dress for summer and I’ve finally found it!

I picked this blue and white gingham dress up from Target and I couldn’t be happier with it. It’s 100% cotton, so comfortable and breezy! The skirt is very full giving it a fun vintage inspired look. The dress is available in a small up to XXL!

Are you on board with the gingham trend? I can’t get enough!

April-What I’m into

Or rather what I was into in April. 🙂 I always plan to participate in this link up,  but I forget about it or lose track of time and just scrap the idea all together. Not this time! I am linking up for Leigh Kramer’s What I’m Into prompt

Reading– I only read two books in March. Actually if I’ve being honest, I started both of these in March, but finished them in April. Still counts!

I have been in love with Taraji Henson forever. I don’t watch Empire(it’s on my list), but I’ve watched her in so many tv/movies and have fallen in love with her personality from following her on social media. Her memoir, Around the Way Girl does not disappoint. It’s in her voice so it’s hilaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarious, but also does a very good job of telling her life’s story. I gave it 5 stars on Goodreads.
The second book I read was “I’m Judging you” by comedian/activist/blogger Luvvie Ajayi. I love her blog and enjoy her on social media, but I wasn’t a big fan of the book. It should’ve been a short read, but I could barely get into it. It started off strong and just petered out. I was hoping for a collection of essays that would make me laugh and give me something to think about, but it just fell flat on everything. It wasn’t a good book or a bad book. Just meh.

Watching– I recently reinstated my Funimation account. Funimation is like Netflix for anime and man have I got my money’s worth. I watched a lot last month but my favorites were Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid  and Interviews with Monster Girls. The latter being my favorite. It’s about monster girls trying  in a normal world trying to navigate high school life. It’s super cute!

End of category! That album is so damn good. I don’t have to skip a track. The entire album is great. I’m not even tired of Humble which has been playing EVERYWHERE!

Oot and aboot – I participated in a fashion show. The theme was Evolution of Fashion and I was privileged enough to have my vintage clothing on the runway. It was a great experience which I will blog about soon. I also got a new job! I’m a shop girl at the cutest shop in downtown Memphis.

Creating-NOTHING! Which I should definitely be doing. I did see a cute tutorial for mini pot planters on A Beautiful Mess.

Daydreaming-about leaving the city for a getaway! Lots of things have been getting in the way of that. But I am dreaming of escaping for a little bit and exploring a new city.

And a new car. Mine is on the fritz.  😦

So glad I posted in time to participate in this prompt. Check out what other bloggers were up to in April here!

Happy birthday to me!
StockSnap_U03L2OTSU3
Well…it’s not technically my birthday, but I celebrate all month long. Yep. I’m one of those people. I celebrate by treating myself to my favorite things all of March.
Fresh tulips! Cupcakes and cookies for lunch. Baskin Robbins for dinner. Taking advantage of ModCloth sales (bought 5 dresses from the stylish surprise sale)! Lunch and brunch dates!! Using vacation days just to sleep in. Tickets to see Radiohead in New Orleans in less than a month! Little things that make my day brighter.

Happy March!

February

February was filled with lots of brunches, dinner dates with friends, mirror/outfit selfies because I’m becoming more comfortable with my body, cupcakes,  voting, new comics, new friends, knitting a scarf even though it’s warming up, workouts, Dr. Seuss week with my preschool class, and finding  the perfect purse (the rainbow one in the middle!) while thrifting!

Sew good!

Merry Christmas! This holiday was a quiet one for me. And I couldn’t have been more happy. My mom and I made Christmas dinner and just stayed home. No visitors and we didn’t have any obligations to go anywhere. It was a nice and welcome change from the normal hustling and bustling around in an attempt to see everyone and their cousin and their kids and…you get the picture.
I received some really cool gifts, but my most favorite is my new sewing machine!

I’ve been wanting a sewing machine  for awhile and was so ecstatic when I opened it! I bought some fabric and immediately dove into learning all about my machine and stitches. My go-to guide for all things has been Tilly and the Buttons. Her blog has a beginner’s sewing section that has been so great at teaching me the basics.

I’ve already completed my first project. The Brigitte scarf, one of Tilly’s beginner patterns.

It was pretty simple and turned out super cute!
I ordered her book, Love at First Stitch, and can’t wait to get it and create some more.
Are you a seamstress? Have any recommended beginner patterns? Or books/ blogs that can help a beginner? Let me know!!
