country roads

I almost made it through the entire month of November without drinking a coke *! Almost! After missing a flight on Thanksgiving, I ended up having to take a later one. Which means I spent the majority of my thanksgiving in an airport. Frustration and hunger got the most of me- had a greasy lunch from krystals with a coke. It was delicious. And that folks was “breaking the seal”. For the rest of my holiday I drank coke whenever I had a chance. BUT now that I’m back home, I’m back on a no coke diet.

Despite the airport problem, my trip was nice. Went to West Virginia to visit the bf. It had only been 9 days since the last time I saw him, but you know how new love is. It felt like a month!! We spent most of my trip at his place and the last day and a half at his parents. Time at his place consisted of movies, cooking, video games, cuddling, and black Friday shopping. Yup! We dared to go out at 5 am to take advantage of some deals. I got RockBand and he got some blu Ray discs and a ds(for meeee!) at great prices! Time at his family’s house was a little more active. We attended two family dinners and did some hiking. His family lives on a huge amount of land. I thought it was a lot less when I agreed to take a hike on it >.< Maybe it’s a good thing we did take that hike considering how much coke I had! The hike was really beautiful(and tiring!). I felt like a kid again climbing over fences to see creeks and the best views from the mountains. It was so nice up there and SO creepily quiet.

We also went to their pastures where I attempted to feed cows. They wanted nothing to do with me. I also drove a tractor!!! Haha! I felt like such a country bumpkin, but it was fun and I enjoyed it. All of this stuff is really new and exciting for a girl that’s always lived in big cities. His entire family was so shocked that I had never shot a gun! They wanted to teach me but we never found the time. But they haven’t forgotten. They say they’ll get me next time.

I had a really good time with him and his family! No idea what’s next in this relationship. We’ve officially been a couple for about 3.5 months now so it’s still new. Traveling back and forth to see each other is getting annoying AND expensive and it’s definitely getting harder and harder to say goodbye with each time. Buuuut were not rushing anything. I’m hoping for the best, because I REALLY Like him and he really likes me back.

So, yesterday I went up the road to Nashville TN to see one of my favorite bands perform. THE MOUNTAIN GOATS! I’ve been excited about this show for months. I’ve seen the mountain goats before, but it was about 4 years ago and it was at at a festival. Not my ideal situation to see them. When I heard they were playing only 3 hours away from me, I jumped to buy tickets!

Before the mountain goats played I had to sit through 2 acts. The first was a singer named Larkin Grimm. Never heard of her before last night, but I enjoyed her set. It was cute hippy folk music that charmed me. Besides being mesmerized by her music, I was mesmerized by her face!

She is sooooo beautiful. I internet stalked her because I was so curious about her background. Found out she is a mixture of Afro-Caribbean, german, Sinti, English, Kree, and French! And what beautiful unique mixture! Here’s her performing one of her songs

After she performed, I got to see the Final Fantasy. I had heard of them, but never listened to any of their stuff. It’s mainly one guy, violinist Owen Pallet. I absolutely loved his set. LOOOOOVED! He had amazing stage presence and hilarious banter in between songs. I fell in love with him more and more with every song. He does this thing where he sings or plays a couple of bars on his violin, records it, loops it, and sing/plays with the recorded track(s) in real time as well. I was amazed as I watching him looping, using his pedals and hearing him create a sound that sounded like a room full of strings at times! AHhh! You just have to see it!

See?!

After internet stalking him, I found out he co-wrote and performed the strings on The Arcade Fire’s “Funeral”-one of my favorite albums.

and then I saw the band I was waiting for. The mountain goats. They were…ok. I think what just made the show ok and not AMAZING was that John Darnielle played with a live band. It wasn’t The Mountain Goats that I fell in love with. It was a mountain goats with a harder sound. Not the soft acoustic Mountain Goats that sing me to sleep at night.

Still had a good time and glad I got to go!

life in a blur

Phew! And Monday is over. 1 work day down, 4 more to go. Actually 3 more to go! I am using one of my vacation days and taking off Wednesday. No reason really. I just feel that I’ve been working entirely too much and I want a day off to sleep in and run some errands.

I had a good weekend. Finally stopped putting it off and went to the optometrist. I’ve worn glasses nearly all my life, but for the last couple of years I’ve gotten into a bad habit of not wearing them and just squinting or straining my eyes to see everything. I usually just pop my (out of date prescription) glasses on if I am at a theatre or driving. My optometrist informed me that my eyesight has gotten worse and my new prescription is almost twice as strong as my last. eek! I ordered not one, but two pair of new glasses. If I’m going to have to wear them ALL the time, I need options. 🙂 I’ll post pics when I get them back, sometime this week. I also spent a lot of my Saturday in a salon getting my hair done. Got it straightened+extensions+curls. A style I re-visit every few months

Spent Saturday evening celebrating Allison’s birthday. We went downtown for dinner and then drinking around midtown. I was kind of meh all night because I’m currently a PMS-ing, moody, emotional, Pinkie at the moment. But she had a blast, which is all that matters since it was her birthday! There have been a lot of birthday’s this month! A lot of parent’s were getting it on at Valentine’s Day. Bow chicka wow wow! So, Happy Birthday to all you out there especially my sister Nina, and my friends Heather, Alena, Bettina, and Allison. OOOh! I bought the cutest gift for Heather. She is a sushi lover. Like, big time. She even dressed as a sushi roll for Halloween a couple of years ago. So, I let her choose out her favorite stuffed sushi roll!

sushi!

Aren’t these adorable?! I’m gonna order two for myself. Probably the salmon and the shrimp roll. You can find them over at ThinkGeek. (kudos to steven for the link!)
